Mit ihrem starken Debüt „Sports“ und grandiosen Songtiteln wie „ I Think You Were In My Profile Picture Once“ haben Modern Baseball im vergangenen Jahr vollkommen zurecht für Aufmerksamkeit gesorgt. Am 11. Februar kommt mit „You’re Gonna Miss It All“ endlich der Nachfolger auf Run For Cover Records heraus. Zudem kommt die Band im Mai auch endlich hier auf Tour. Anhand unseres kleinen Fragebogens erzählen Brendan, Jacob, Ian und Sean enthusiastisch von ihrer Wahlheimat Philadelphia und der spannenden DIY-Szene dort.

Since when do you live in Philadelphia?
We all began living in Philly at different times, because of school, so it’s about 3-5 years between all of us!

What should everyone know about Philadelphia?
That the longer you stay here the more Philly Lingo you pick up and that walking up The Art Museum steps isn’t as easy as Rocky made it seem.

Is there a thing that totally annoys you about the city?
Trying to leave the city is always hard haha It’s usually 45 minutes to an hour of extra driving time if we leave at the wrong time. Besides that probably that there are so many great places to eat which makes choosing IMPOSSIBLE!

What is the greatest thing about living in Philadelphia?
Well I don’t drive and It’s pretty easy to get anywhere by public transit, and even though it’s not always the prettiest ride it gets me where I need to be. so thats really great. But honestly I think the best part about the city is that there are so many things to do here. It’s crazy to think that I will really never be able to go everywhere I want to go in Philly because everyday there is something new and great opening. The DIY scene around here is the best I have ever seen, hands down. Also again the food is rad.

How does the city reflect itself in your music? Does it influence you in any way?
It definitely influences us! I think that living in Philly has helped us mature as people, which has carried over into our music. There are a lot of different kinds of bands in Philly, which really brought an edge to my writing that I didn’t previously have. Being in such a tight knit DIY community really makes you want to be the best for everyone who supports you, which has made us really try and progress with every release.

Whats your favourite venue to play in Philadelphia?
Well, we all really love this small venue called The Fire and this punk house called Golden Tea House but when we played The Church with The Wonder Years it was crazy to play on a stage where I’ve seen bands like Tigers Jaw and Joyce Manor play. Later this year we are playing one of the largest venues in the city, The Electric Factory, with The Wonder Years and the last time I was there I saw The Gaslight Anthem so I am incredibly excited for that.

What’s your favourite place in the city?
There is this bridge next to the train station (30th street station) that connects the area of the city that has town hall and a lot of cool shops to the area of the city that has most of the universities and even though the bridge isn’t that big the first time I crossed it was when I was heading to see Joyce Manor at The Church and for some reason I just fell in love with it; I have no idea why. Every once in awhile I’ll take a detour and just look over at the river before having to get back to real things. I’d say that’s my favorite place.

Do you have a favourite song or movie about Philadelphia?
Haha Well, I listened to The Upsides by The Wonder Years a lot in high school and that record basically has it’s own Philly scavenger hunt so, I have to say that record. Also that movie with Tom Hanks is pretty cool!

If you would not live in Philadelphia, which city would be your favourite to live in? Why?
Probably Chicago, IL- every time we go there while on tour I love it. I mean there’s a beach and deep dish pizza within blocks of each other so you really can’t go wrong living there.

What would be a perfect slogan for Philadelphia?
The City of “Damn, that really is a lot of steps… how about we get food first”
