Since when do you live in London?
What should everyone know about London?
London is also probably the best city in the world. You can be invisible, or find people. It isn’t what you think it is; It is exactly what I think it is but if I told you what that was then it wouldn’t be that thing anymore. Not for me anyway. Or for you.
Is there a thing that totally annoys you about the city?
Boris Johnson. Cartoon people should only be allowed to be in charge of cartoon cities.
What is the greatest thing about living in London?
The people, the music, the history. London is yours, if you want it. It is nothing to everybody and yet everything to yourself. You aren’t judged by people here too much.
How does the city reflect itself in your music? Does it influence you in any way?
London is in our music in that the way that we live our lives is the same way that the music comes out. It has ups and downs which effect all of our lives if only on a subconscious level. Late dark nights and the harsh mornings which illuminate everything. They all play their part.
Whats your favourite venue to play in London?
We are big fans of The Lexington in Angel. Really great people there, and good sound and stage. Also Buffalo Bar, which is a wonderful place as a performer and spectator.
What’s your favourite place in the city?
The Memorial to Heroic Self Sacrifice behind St. Botolph’s Aldersgate church. It’s the calmest place in London.
If you would not live in London, which city would be your favourite to live in? Why?
Have recently been considering a move to Berlin. Also New York. Both have got lots of great things going on and good friends living in them. I think you choose a city by it’s vibe: how alive it feels.
What would be a perfect slogan for London?
Don’t really write slogans. Would say that London is a great mix of history and the present, and the future. So, taking all this into account, I guess if I were trying to sell London to somebody, I would say: ‘Come to Postmodern London. Where you can be yourself, or whoever else you want to be.’
