The only playlist you will need this summer

Summer PlaylistSummer is here! At least we are now in the months that are supposed to be hot and sunny. Sunglasses, chilled drinks and beach parties are a great fit – but they are in need for a kick-ass soundtrack to go along, right? There’s no need to look any further, Squiview has you sorted. Here comes the only summer playlist you need, curated by some of our favourite artists:

Tiny Moving Parts – Headache

“We’re gonna spend every day of the summer like these dudes did in their video.”

Elm Tree Circle

The La’s – There She Goes

“There’s nothing comparable in this world to driving with windows open and blasting “There She Goes” on a sunny summer morning. Even though it’s such a sad song lyric-wise, the melody and arrangement summarizes all you could ever want from a perfect summer song.”

New Native

Big D And The Kids Table – Describing The Sky

“It reminds me of the great time I had in California <3…CALI = summer state…I love everything about Cali – people, landscape, energy.”

Kinga Dula

Weezer – Memories

“Well, this is a hard one ’cause we don’t actually have a favorite tune for the summer :) The best fit will probably be anything from early 2000s like Sum 41, Blink 182 etc… but to give you guys a more proper answer let’s say Memories from Weezer is the perfect fit for us. This song perfectly represents how our summer time looks like. Crazy, careless fun time. And we would like to keep it this way for as long as possible :) “

Trash Candy

Youth Decay – Hysteria

“Rad dudes from the sunny beaches of Canada. Makes sweating in the van a little less grim.”

Fire Next Time

Third Eye Blind – Semi-Charmed Life

“It’s a song that will bring out a smile in me and induce a singalong no matter what. It reminds me of sunny days driving in my car with the windows rolled all the way down, singing the words loudly, excited for a night of drinking and partying with friends. Four Year Strong also did an awesome cover of it. Brilliant song, excellent vibes, summer through and through.”

Brightr

Bush – Cold Contagious

“Strange Title for a Summer song indeed, but the year I turned 18, I spent the entire Summer home listening exclusively to Bush’s Razorblade Suitcase and ever since have always somehow connected hot Summer evenings’ atmospheres to this song especially, go figure… It’s slow, a bit lazy and dramatic at the same time, perfect sonic incarnation of Summer in my opinion!”

Daria

Animal Collective – Peacebone

“It’s magical. This song and the whole Strawberry Jam album brings me back to summer 2008 hanging out with friends on the roof of our jam hall on Breithaupt street in Kitchener. Good times.”

Life In Vacuum

Hüsker Dü – Celebrated Summer

‘”Celebrated Summer’, the standout track from Husker Du’s 1985 masterpiece ‘New Day Rising’, perfectly captures the melancholy nature of swimming pools, drinking during the day, and getting out of school — only to know that these moments will never last forever, a poignant and poetic comment on the fleeting nature of things and the way they only have any permanences is in our memories. A magnificent song!

Eamon McGrath

The Undertones – Here Comes The Summer

“I still utterly love the whole record, but that songs has everything you need in under two minutes!”

Little You Little Me

Underoath – Reinventing Your Exit

“It’s a really tough one.. there are so many good pop-songs that instantly makes you think of summer, but I think “Underoath – Reinventing Your Exit” fits the bill perfectly as well. It’s a song with a great groove and the lyrics are very uplifting and positive. This is the song you blast from your car-stereo when you drive to the beach on a hot summer day.. also don’t forget your sunscreen – safety first!”

Halcyon Hope

Bomb The Music Industry – Everybody That You Love

“Definitely my favorite Summer song to listen to when it’s 20 below during Winter in Quebec.”

Jo Bergeron

Sublime – Santeria

“Well, it may sound odd … cause I am not listening to any other Dub/Reggae/Ska. But I love Sublime seasonally … I can’t listen to it in any other time but summer. Their whole album is my soundtrack for really hot days and nights, with ice cold corona beer, sunglasses, beach, sun milk, sunburns, riding my bike, wearing flip-flops, can’t-sleep-at-night-because-it-is-too-hot. This voice, these songs and these bass-lines … it reminds me of my teenager days with lots of parties outside every summer weekend in the little town I grew up. Can’t wait for the hottest days and I love them.”

Hell & Back

Deftones – My Own Summer (Shove It)

“Except for the title, this is not your typical summer tune, but this is the song I always put on on the first sunny day of the year and will play it again and again all throughout the summer.”

Dominik McNeder

Dion & The Belmonts – I Wonder Why

“I generally love dark music. Nick Cave, Tom Waits, some depressive Bob Dylan, but summer is the time of year where I love to take a road trip, open the windows to feel the wind in my beard and sing along to some happy tunes. One I particularly love is ‘I Wonder Why’ by Dion & The Belmonts. Cool 50s be-bop-a-lula pop music. Nothing like it. Thank me later for a song that I believe certainly will make your summer even sunnier!”

John Allen

Social Distortion – Highway 101

“Currently for a summer tune  so hard to pick one but i always love social distortions highway 101 , just the perfect upbeat tempo with enough haunting nostalgia to make it one of my favorite tune.”

Lenny Lashley

Inspection 12 – You Can Call Me Al (Paul Simon)

“My favorite summer tune is a little older. An acoustic cover of one of my all-time-favorite songs: Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al” in a relaxed version by Inspection 12. The song makes the sun shine, no matter how bad you feel.”

Max Young

Fucked Up – David Comes To Life

“I don’t have a particular tune but a complete album. I love the album ‘David Comes To Life’ by the band Fucked Up. It’s just so energetic and makes me wanna move, go out, have fun and enjoy life. It’s that simple.”

Zeki Min

Dead To Me – Little Brother

“I don’t really know why but Dead To Me is one of my favorite bands, not only in summer. The vibe they have always puts me in a good mood.
I am beyond stoked that Jack is with the band again and hope for new music soon.”
All Aboard

fIREHOSE – Brave Captain

“My adolescent summers revolved around skateboarding. I first heardFirehose in an early Santa Cruz Streets of Fire video, so “Brave Captain” still speaks sunshine and skating every time I hear it—and I’m forever floored by the intricacy of this Mike Watt bass line.”

Adam Rubenstein

Saves The Day – Shoulder To The Wheel

“My favourite summer tune is ‘Shoulder To The Wheel’ by Saves The Day. Every time I hear this song it makes me think of driving down to the coast with my buddies to go for a surf – great song, great memories!”

Sammy Battle

The Beach Boys – Wouldn’t It Be Nice

“I love listening to this song while I’m driving on a nice summer day.  Whenever I hear it, I think of the wind running through my hair and the warmth of the sun on my skin.”
